During this workshop I showed the basic functions of the main modules of the system Trados, such as Translator's Workbench, WinAlign and MultiTerm.
In the second part I showed the possibilities and features of PDF-to-Word conversion tools, such as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, ABBYY FineReader 9.0, ABBYY PDF Transformer 2.0, Solid Converter PDF, Scansoft PDF Converter Professional.

During this workshop I compared three programs for their ease to use and compatibility with each other and with Trados databases.

For all my computers I made a choice of two off-line dictionaries: Multitran and Lingvo.
When conducting the translation-related research, I use both Internet resources and off-line search facilities such as Google Desktop and Windows Desktop Search.
I take also the careful attention to the information safety that is the data backup and antivirus protection.
Finally, I reviewed my communicating facilities. I believe that the reliable communication is one of the basic requirements for success in translation business. For this reason, I have the permanent Internet connection as well as alternate communicating facilities such as dial-up, GPRS, Wi-Fi, E-faxing.
This time every participant had received two compact-disks with the workshop information, one of them contained the comprehensive suite of the Lingvo add-on dictionaries available in Internet.
2004 29 October Autumn Translators' Workshop 2004 of Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry My report subject: Technological facilities that help translators to render high-quality and effective translations.
I touched upon three items: off-line dictionaries, computer-assisted translation and Internet resources.
I started with overview of electronic dictionaries available for Russian translators: Multilex, Polyglossum and Lingvo.
Secondly, I compared the proficiency of Translation Memory (TM) technology to the unprofessional performance of Machine Translation (MT) technology.
At the end of the workshop, I told how translators may use the Internet resources during three stages of translation process: prior research, translation itself, editing and proofreading.
Every participant had received a compact-disk with the workshop information.
